Scotland is a heaven for walkers, and Glen Moriston is the ideal place to enjoy its glorious landscape.
Easy, but breathtaking walks surrounds Above the Glen are spread in all directions. Walk behind the house among young pine forest for a rewarding view of the glen, or walk through the village for a chance to see a red squirrel or white owl.
If you are after forest walk take the Old Road to Fort Augustus through the magical forest, or walk along the river at Inverwick forest – beautiful places that only locals know about, all within a mile from Above the Glen.
If it is a challenge you want – a footpath to Glen Affric will take you up and up the hills through the moorland for an amazing and most rewarding views of wild Scottish countryside.


You will be amazed at how many quiet and beautiful roads are there for you to explore. There are a lot of information on cycling routes at Above the Glen, so just pick a route you like and set out from the comfort of Above the Glen.
Short drive away is Great Glen Cycle Route that takes you along lochs and forests. About 30 miles south is Nevis Range that has UK’s only World Cup downhill, and provides a numerous trails, designed for cyclists of all levels.Balnain Bike Park is the cycling equivalent of a skateboard park is a half an hour away. Aside from the skills development area, the park is for experienced mountain bikers and is graded orange bike park – extreme.


River Moriston, which in Gaelic means “River of Waterfalls” is well-known with fishers for trout and salmon and we are happy to arrange a fishing permit for you


Scotland is famous for its golf courses and you won’t be far from your favourite game, staying in Above the Glen. The nearest golf course is in Fort Augustus, just 15 minutes away from us.
Several other world class golf courses are available around Inverness and Fort William – all just under an hour drive
